In a press article for die FAZ Sinn worked out that, “the fiscal net balance of the current influx of migrants is negative,” but emphasized that migrants can positively impact the domestic population via the labour market. He particularly highlighted the infrastructure costs of migration. An article published by Spiegel-Online claims that Sinn said that the migrants coming to Germany will cost the country more than they will bring it on balance. In reality, Sinn only wrote that they would cost the government more than they would bring it. Sinn clarified this point in a response published by FAZ.net and in ifo Schnelldienst. This was followed by after-throughts on the migration debate published in the WirtschaftsWoche as well as in ifo Schnelldienst.
In an article for the FAZ Jochen Schumann supported Sinn’s analysis of the effects of migration.
