In the past few days a number of articles in the press have said that Prof. Hans-Werner Sinn was the initiator of the appeal of German-speaking economists against the expansion of the ESM to engage in bank rescues, published in the online version of Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung last July 5th.
This claim is contrary to fact. The appeal was initiated and formulated by Prof. Walter Krämer of the University of Dortmund. What is correct is that Prof. Sinn was one of the by now 250 German-speaking economics professors who signed the appeal and, like many others, contributed with suggestions regarding its wording. Prof. Sinn was not involved at all in recruiting further signatories. We beg the involved parties, where applicable, to correct this information, including in their corresponding archives.
