Professor Hans-Werner Sinn, President of the Ifo Institute for Economic Research at the University of Munich, will hold the annual D. B. Doran Lecture on Population, Resources and Development on Tuesday, 4 May 2010 at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
With the invitation to hold this lecture, the organizers honour Sinn for his outstanding contributions to economics, especially environmental economics.
Sinn’s lecture is entitled “Table or Tank: The Rivalry between Biofuels, Fossil Fuels and Nutrition”, in which he will deal with the results of rising energy prices, the increased production of biofuels and the impact on the feeding of the world’s population.
The Annual D. B. Doran Lecture was established three years ago. The lecture series is aimed at a better understanding of the complex relationships between demographic processes, limited natural resources and economic development, and at stimulating research in this area.
Previous lectures were held by:
2009 Lecture: Professor Joel Cohen, Rockefeller University, “Human Population to 2050: Problems and Opportunities”
2008 Lecture: Professor William Easterly, New York University, “Free Markets, Doomsday Scenarios and Economic Development”
